Letters and documents compiled by M. Golovatchev between 1911 and 1912 concerning the Mouravieff-Apostol family history.
Apparently, Golovatchev was preparing the first scholarly biography of Matvei Mouravieff-Apostol based on original archival sources.
His methodology is surprisingly sophisticated:
- consult state archives,
- compare manuscripts,
- verify handwriting,
- interview descendants,
- search private family collections,
- compare portraits,
- verify military decorations,
- locate graves,
- check contemporary memoirs,
- verify published sources against originals.
