This apartment was owned by Vladimir and Nadezhda Mouravieff-Apostol-Korobyine. They would arrive in their private train from Ukraine and spend time in Paris shopping, attending to financial affairs and enjoying the Paris nightlife and theater offerings. Afterwards, they would move on to Cannes in the south of France to pass the warm winter months. The location is known as the Golden Triangle and in 2020 average prices for a square meter are just above 15,250 euros. At the time, the family occupied the penthouse which covered some 2,000 square meters.

 The family spent the last two months of 1913 in the apartment before going down to Cannes. Vladimir already feared the coming winds of war. So in early 1914, he moved their belongings out of the apartment to their home in Cannes and sold the apartment. In March the family moved to London where they had a rented house and in May he travelled back to Ukraine via Warsaw not knowing it would be the last time he and his family would ever set foot in their native land. The first world war, the Great War, began on  August 1 when Germany declared war on Russia followed on the 4th by England declaring war on Germany. By September 21 countries were in a state of war. Travel to and from Ukraine was impossible and in the end Vladimir returned from Kiev to London via Sebastopol and Lisbon. He and his family remained in London until 1918 when Peace was finally declared.
