GRINDLEY
W.H. Grindley
& Co. had a nice long run, from 1880 to 1991. The company was founded in Tunstall, England by W.H. Grindley
and while it is known today primarily for its flow blue designs, Grindley turned out hundreds of different patterns of china
in colors like red and green as well as that flowing blue. The firm was bought
in 1970 by Alfred Clough, LTD and renamed Grindley on
Stokes in 1978. In 1982 Federal Potteries Co. purchased Grindley.
In 1988 the Grindley family repurchased the company
that still bore their name, but it was already in trouble. The company was put
in the hands of the receivers, and in 1991 was taken over by Woodlands Pottery,
which still operates the factory today.
